Spiritual Communion

On God alone my soul in stillness waits;
from him comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my stronghold, so that I shall never be shaken.

The Lord is here.
His Spirit is with us.

Almighty God,
to whom all hearts be open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love thee,
and worthily magnify thy holy name;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith,
firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments
and to live in love and peace with all:

Either, a Kyrie confession, such as

We have not always worshipped God, our creator.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

We have not always followed Christ, our Saviour.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.

We have not always trusted in the Spirit, our guide.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
we have sinned against thee
and against our neighbour,
in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We are heartily sorry
and repent of all our sins.

For the sake of thy Son Jesus Christ,
who died for us, forgive us all that is past,
and grant that we may serve thee in newness of life
to the glory of thy name. Amen.

May almighty God have mercy upon you,
forgive you your sins, and keep you in life eternal,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to…
Glory be to thee, O Lord.

At the end

This is the Gospel of the Lord.
Praise be to thee, O Christ.

DECLARATION OF FAITH    (sometimes omitted midweek)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ,
let us pray to the Father.

The response to our prayers is one of

Lord in thy mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, hear us. Lord, graciously hear us.

At the end

Merciful Father,
accept these prayers for the sake of thy Son,
our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The peace of the Lord be always with you
and with thy spirit.

The priest prepares the bread and wine to offer on behalf of us all.

The Lord be with you
and with thy spirit.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up unto the Lord.

Let us give thanks unto the Lord our God.
It is meet and right so to do.

We are led in our Thanksgiving, joining the following responses:

… Therefore with angels and archangels,
and with all the company of heaven,
we laud and magnify thy glorious name,
evermore praising thee and saying:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts,
heaven and earth are full of thy glory.
Glory be to thee, O Lord most high.
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

The following may be added here:

Heavenly Father, we your humble servants entirely desire your fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving; most humbly beseeching you to grant, that by the merits and death of your Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in his blood, we and all your whole Church may obtain remission of our sins, and all other benefits of his passion. Amen.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
have mercy upon us.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
have mercy upon us.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world,
grant us thy peace.

Our Father, which art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits you have given me,
for all the pains and insults you have borne for me.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
I ask you to come spiritually into my heart.

O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know you more clearly, love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen.

Lord, in these days of mercy,
make us quiet and prayerful;

in these days of challenge,
make us stronger in you;

in these days of emptiness,
take possession of us;

in these days of waiting,
open our hearts to the mystery of your cross. Amen.

This or a seasonal blessing is given:

The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep our hearts and minds
in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord;
and may the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among us and remain with us always.

Go in the peace of Christ.
Thanks be to God.
