Resurrection Gospel

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew 21:1-10 read by Ava Wetherell from Ronnie Clark’s Bible

The Light of Christ

Eternal God,
who made this most holy night
to shine with the brightness of your one true light:
set us aflame with the fire of your love,
and bring us to the radiance of your heavenly glory;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All    Amen.

Marking of the Easter Candle – our candles have been brought to the Vicarage to prepare for the day we can set them in church.

Christ yesterday and today,
the beginning and the end,
Alpha and Omega,
all time belongs to him,
and all ages;
to him be glory and power,
through every age and for ever.
All    Amen.

The Easter candles are blessed and nailed.

By his holy and glorious wounds
may Christ our Lord guard and keep us.

Amen.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!
All He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Renewal of Baptism Promises

As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead, we remember that through the paschal mystery we have died and been buried with him in baptism. To follow Christ means dying to sin and rising to new life with him.

Therefore I ask:

Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?
All    I reject them.

Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?
All    I renounce them.

Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour?
All    I repent of them.

In baptism, God calls us out of darkness into his marvellous light. Therefore I ask:

Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
All    I turn to Christ.

Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
All    I submit to Christ.

Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?
All    I come to Christ.

Creator of all,
you wash away our sins,
you give us new birth by the Spirit,
and redeem us in the blood of Christ.
As we celebrate the resurrection,
renew your gift of life within us.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our risen Lord.
Amen.

Confession

This is the day when our Lord Jesus Christ was raised gloriously from the dead, crushing the power of sin and destroying the sting of death. Throughout the world Christians celebrate the mighty power of God as Christ calls us out of darkness to share in his marvellous light. May we, and all Christ’s people, shine as lights in the world to the glory of God the Father.

But first we come to you, our risen Master and triumphant Lord,
in sorrow for our sins,
and confess to you our weakness and unbelief.

We have lived for this world alone,
and doubted our home in heaven.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

We have lived by the light of our own eyes,
as faithless and not believing.
Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.

We have lived by our own strength,
and not by the power of your resurrection.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

May the light of Christ, rising in glory,
banish all darkness from our hearts and minds.

O Lamb of God, come cleanse our hearts
And take our sins away.
O Lamb of God, your grace impart,
And let our guilty fear depart,
Have mercy, Lord, we pray,
Have mercy, Lord, we pray.

O Lamb of God, our lives restore,
Our guilty souls release.
Into our lives your Spirit pour
And let us live for evermore
in perfect heav’nly peace,
in perfect heav’nly peace.

May the God of love and power
forgive you and free you from your sins,
heal and strengthen you by his Spirit,
and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.
All Amen.

Glory in the highest to the God of heaven!
Peace to all your people through the earth be given!
Mighty God and Father, thanks and praise we bring,
Singing highest praises to our heavenly king.

Jesus Christ is risen, God the Father’s Son!
With the Holy Spirit, you are Lord alone!
Lamb once killed for sinners, all our hurt to bear,
Show us now your mercy, now receive our prayer.

Christ the world’s true Saviour, high and holy One,
Seated now and reigning from your Father’s throne:
Lord and God, we praise you! Highest heaven adores:
In the Father’s glory, all the praise be yours!

Let us pray:

God of glory, by the raising of your Son you have broken the chains of death and hell: fill your Church with faith and hope;
for a new day has dawned and the way to life stands open in our Saviour Jesus Christ.
All    Amen.

Affirmation of Faith

Do you believe and trust in God the Father, source of all being and life, the one for whom we exist?
All    We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Son, who took our human nature, died for us and rose again?
All    We believe and trust in him.

Do you believe and trust in God the Holy Spirit,
who gives life to the people of God and makes Christ known in the world?

Easter Intercession

In the power of the resurrection let us offer our prayers to God.

The response to

Lord of life is hear us in your love.
Lord of life, hear us in your love.

Remember, O Lord, in your love
the Church throughout the world,

those new to faith and those rejuvenated in your Easter grace;
those seeking baptism and confirmation,
all those who minister to others.

Silence

May your whole Church know your power
and be a sign that Christ is risen.

Lord of life, hear us in your love.

Remember in your love the world you have made;
those who seek a fair and proper use of the world’s resources,
those who strive for justice and peace among the nations,
those who try to bring equity and opportunity.

Silence

May the whole earth be transformed by mercy
and rejoice in hope.

Lord of life, hear us in your love.

Remember in your love those who suffer
in mind, body or spirit;
the victims of violence and injustice,
of illness or disease,
and those who watch and wait.

Silence

May all in need find comfort, strength
and freedom in the living Christ.

Lord of life, hear us in your love.

Remember in your love those who have died:
those who have confessed the faith
and those whose faith is known to you alone.
Draw near to those who grieve, and those who still grieve in memory of loved ones.

Silence

May all your children receive grace and light according to their needs
and come at last to share with all the saints in life eternal.

Lord of life, hear us in your love.

Gracious God,
we make prayers through Jesus Christ,
our risen Lord and Saviour. Accept our prayers
and be with us always. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Rejoicing in God’s new creation, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us

All    Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done;
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Peace

The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia. The peace of the risen Christ be always with you.

Commission

Risen Lord Jesus,
as Mary Magdalene met you in the garden
on the morning of your resurrection,
so may we meet you today and every day:
speak to us as you spoke to her;
reveal yourself as the living Lord;
renew our hope
and kindle our joy;
and send us to share the good news with others.
All    Amen.

All those who are baptized are called to worship and serve God.

Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers?
All    With the help of God, I will.

Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?
All    With the help of God, I will.

Will you proclaim by word and example
the good news of God in Christ?
All    With the help of God, I will.

Will you seek and serve Christ in all people,
loving your neighbour as yourself?
All    With the help of God, I will.

Will you acknowledge Christ’s authority over human society, by prayer for the world and its leaders, by defending the weak, and by seeking peace and justice?
All    With the help of God, I will.

May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith,
that you may be rooted and grounded in love
and bring forth the fruit of the Spirit.
All    Amen.

Dismissal

God the Father, by whose love Christ was raised from the dead, open to you who believe the gates of everlasting life.
All    Amen.

God the Son, who in bursting from the grave has won a glorious victory, give you joy as you share the Easter faith.
All    Amen.

God the Holy Spirit, who filled the disciples with the life of the risen Lord, empower you and fill you with Christ’s peace.
All    Amen.

And the blessing of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.
All    Amen.
