Lent is the season of preparation for Easter, a season of penitence and discipline, seeking to grow in faith and trust. It is often characterised by fasting, prayer and almsgiving (charitable giving/work). Throughout Lent there are many options for prayer, worship and study, to which all are welcome:
Discussion/Study groups meet in the parishes on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7pm and on Thursday afternoons at 2pm. If you would like to join in, please call the vicarage (455 4682) or email email@example.com to find out where the nearest one to you takes place. This Lent we are following the Church of England’s #LiveLent programme – learn more here.
Silent prayer ‘Lent Peace’ takes place in church on Monday mornings, 11.30am. This is 45 minutes of music for Lent, often with an image to focus on for prayer, to spend reflective time in the stillness at the beginning of a week.
Wednesday evenings sees worship take place around the parishes with brothers and sisters from Churches Together. Worship begins at 7pm. This year our pattern is as follows:
Feb 21st St Mark & St Cuthbert’s
Feb 28th St Gregory’s Catholic Church – off Sunderland Road opposite Farm Foods
March 7th Harton Methodists
March 14th St Margaret’s URC on the Nook/Centenary Ave
March 21st St Peter’s
And then please do join worship throughout Holy Week in Harton and Cleadon Park, see below for the programme. In Holy Week our services help us to focus on Christ’s coming sacrifice, they combine words and music in opportunities to feel the mounting tension of the week.
